About yourself
Hello everyone, it's me, Jeffrey. Started playing bass when I was 17. Addicted ever since. I love to write my own music (any genre) and I even follow some singing lessons while I'm at it. I'll tell you more about myself and more interestingly, how
Raiser came to what it is today.
Raiser is something me and Jordy started when we only played for a year. We met up online and found out that we actually went to the same school. We wanted to have the old-school feeling back in thrash so we searched and searched.
We came across many different guitarists, but none had the old school thrash vibe that we were looking for. Gladly we found a guitarist/vocalist and another guitarist just before we were about to give up.
I won't go into details too much but after a while we had to find replacement for both. Mostly due to opinions and musical taste differentials. Gladly there was Michiel who came to join us. When we talked on how we were going to
handle the situation we already came across guitarist Iwan. He was quite young when he joined us, but that was no big deal since his skills made up for that age.
After a short while a friend of mine introduced us to vocalist Sander. Pleasantly surprised with his harsher vocals than the previous vocalist, we invited him into the band. Every song you know was actually 2 notches softer than they are now. We love to keep it loud and fast now. After a while we found out that the direction of sound wasn't what we were looking for, so I took the vocalist-role on myself.
While I can sing clean, I never do so in Raiser, because that would break the thrash-metal sound that we are aiming for. My thrash-vocals were not really prepared so I just did what came up to me. Without any expirience or knowledge I just threw out my vocals. After a while of practicing and perfectioning my vocals I came to a less damaging style of singing so I wouldn't lose my voice after five songs.
My bassplaying is very diverse. I love to play with both fingers and pick. I can play really fast with 3 fingers, but I really love the sharp sound of the pick though. It's just like my hero (hey, everyone has one right?) David Ellefson says it's more suited for metal music. I ignore anti-pick people completely (Well maybe not entirely since I wrote this about them) and I think you should always try to be as diverse as possible. Did you know playing bass was first designed to be played with 1 finger? All those elitists out there should have a nice cup of you know what and respect eachothers style.
For my basslines I always try to go against the guitars to create a harmony. However, often times harmonies are not suited for thrash metal and I try to find a bassline that sounds like the guitar riffs but is quite different. Listen to World of Hate for a perfect example.
To wrap this up... I hope we can thrash more than a few stages and share our ideas and spirit with you. Playing for 50 people or 500 people, it doesn't matter when the vibe is good. The fans are the most important to me, and will always be. Thank you all for supporting us, we won't let you down.
